Abstract

The implementation of the biorefinery concept as a potential process to make wastewater and solid waste treatment systems more sustainable still depends on the understanding and development of various chemical and biochemical aspects, as well as the establishment of efficient monitoring systems. In this context, the present proposal aims to contribute to the development of initiatives involving environmental monitoring bioindicators in the State of São Paulo, particularly within the scope of the thematic project "CONSOLIDATION OF THE BIOREFINERY CONCEPT APPLIED TO THE BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT OF WASTEWATER AND SOLID WASTE." In this project, the visiting researcher's participation will be focused on collaborative studies involving life cycle analysis to assess the environmental performance of biorefineries. Expanding on this, the proposal intends to address key challenges by integrating advanced bioindicator monitoring approaches. The visiting researcher's expertise in biomonitoring and life cycle analysis will be instrumental in guiding these efforts, fostering a deeper understanding of how biorefinery processes can be optimized to meet sustainability goals. This work will not only contribute to the thematic project but also pave the way for broader applications of biorefinery concepts in environmental management practices within São Paulo and beyond.
