Applications of RAD-seq methods to study neotropical biodiversity: promoting international cooperation throughout a bioinformatics workshop and projects discussion

Abstract

The internationalization of research in the state of São Paulo stands as a key initiative by FAPESP. This aligns with the objectives of most Brazilian postgraduate programs as well. Thus, the main goal of this project is to intensify the collaboration between the 'Laboratório de Diversidade Genética e Evolução' (UFSCar) and the 'Eaton´s Lab' (Columbia University, US). The collaboration between this proposer with Dr. Deren Eaton started in 2019 through the submission of a research scholarship abroad to FAPESP (BPE, number 2019/10341-6) to stay a period in Columbia University. Since then, two papers have been published in collaboration, and another paper has been submitted. The work plan for Dr. Eaton visit involves lab meetings to discuss ongoing project outcomes (FAPESP 2020/16151-3 and others), a one-day field trip to showcase our biological model in its natural habitat, a talk at UFSCar about Dr. Eaton research line, and a workshop on bioinformatics to process RAD-Seq (Restriction-site Associated DNA sequencing) data. It is expected that this visit will contribute to the improvement of our team bioinformatics, intensify the collaboration as well as pave the way for future projects. (AU)
