The unknown biodiversity of the Amazon mountains

Abstract

Continuing the multidisciplinary inventory of biodiversity in the high mountains of the northern Amazon, the aim is to sample the region of the Tulu-Tuloi mountain complex, AM, around 200km east of Serra do Imeri, with support from the Army. The specimens and tissue samples obtained, added to those collected in the Pico da Neblina region and Serra do Imeri, will allow us to draw an overview of the biogeographical history of these areas of endemism. In addition to the description of the new taxa, phylogeographic and historical demography studies will make it possible to evaluate the vicissitudes suffered by these three groups of mountainous endemism over time, and compare them with those experienced by similar habitats in the Atlantic Forest.
