Abstract

ntroduction: In Brazil, gender identity is not included in the census or in representative studies of the population such as the National Health Survey (PNS) or other population surveys, resulting in ignorance of the size of the population, which is a barrier to also understand the social determinants and health disparities faced by this population. The absence of gender identity in the country's official demographic bases is configured as yet another situation of structural discrimination, which makes it difficult to formulate public policies. Regarding health conditions, other investigations have already sought to characterize them, however they are still insufficient, and few with the assessment of health conditions in a comprehensive way, with greater focus on sexually transmitted infections and AIDS. It is, therefore, important to organize projects to identify the living and health conditions of the trans population in the different regions of the state of São Paulo. This project was developed in partnership with other research centers, government institutions and social movements. And it aims to map the trans population that resides or works in one of the 39 municipalities in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional survey with the trans, transvestite and non-binary population residing in the metropolitan region of Greater São Paulo using a structured questionnaire. The sampling calculation was performed based on the population of the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, taking into account a 95% confidence interval and a 5% margin of error. The sample will be proportionally stratified among the 39 municipalities. In the first phase of the project, a structured questionnaire will be applied that will seek to investigate issues related to gender identity; sociodemographic and economic aspects; to food security; health, considering the transsexual process, mental health, work, STI/HIV and chronic diseases; rights, exercise of citizenship and social participation in these municipalities. This project is characterized as a proposal for Policies in Idealization, as it is necessary to know the profile of the trans population in order to contribute to the improvement of current policies and to the formulation of new specific policies to meet the needs of this population, more efficiently. . Expected products: We hope to produce from this project, descriptive and analytical reports divided into specific blocks on socio-demographic conditions, quality of life, physical health, psychosocial health, sexual and reproductive health, nutritional status and food security, body modification resources and access to health services, and violence. These reports will be systematically passed on to the São Paulo State Health Department and to the São Paulo STD/AIDS Reference and Training Center to verify possibilities for improvement and creation of new public policies in health and work for the trans population in São Paulo. In addition, we anticipate technical advisory support and the scientific production of articles in partnership with state public management on the transversal scenario, the formulation and application of new policies, programs and actions.
