Abstract

The Research Project PIPE-FAPESP, Process No.2022 12100-9 PHASE 1, entitled "Powder Metallurgy Tungsten Alloys for Aluminium Die Casting Toolings" allowed the company Brats to successfully develop and produce 02 high tungsten alloys. One of them, with the nominal chemical composition 90W 4Mo 4Ni 2Fe, is equivalent to currently imported commercial alloys and the other, a 90W 4Co 4Ni 2Fe alloy is innovative. Both presented microstructures, densities and hardness that are compatible with the property requirements needed in aluminum casting toolings. However, there is a need to carry out some more complementary tests to investigate the effect of hydrogen treatment, adjustments of the sintering temperatures more appropriate to both alloys, as well as to produce a greater number of prototypes that can meet a wider range of dimensions used in the Brazilian market of aluminum casting toolings. In addition to these initial stages, there is the need to carry out the fundamental stage of extensive field tests with the aluminum foundries and tooling companies that are partners of this project. With this, Brats will be able to manufacture the two alloys within a context of technological maturity equivalent to TRL 7 and in order to that this, the steps described in this direct PHASE 2 research proposal will be necessary.
