Abstract

The project aims to strengthen the sustainability of socio-biodiversity in the communities of the Guaporé Valley in Rondônia and the Jari Valley in Amapá, whose resilience is compromised by anthropogenic and natural dynamics and the climate crisis. It seeks to understand how traditional communities, made up of quilombolas, extractivists and agro-extractivists, use and manage biodiversity resources in their territories, focusing on the sustainability of their natural resources for sustainable tourism, extractivism and self-consumption. Based on the socio-environmental characterization of the communities and previous surveys, the aim is to understand the demand needed to expand the dynamics and interactions with the environment and the management of the territories. Biodiversity for traditional uses and income generation will be surveyed, as well as the hydrological and climatological aspects of the areas, with the aim of identifying opportunities and challenges for promoting resilient practices that increase access to inclusive and fair development for these communities. Once threats and opportunities for territorial management have been identified in the short, medium and long term, considering that climate impacts are present, these activities will guide the implementation of effective conservation actions, sustainable development and adaptive capacity to risks and impacts resulting from climate change in the communities. The project will use participatory and interdisciplinary methodology, involving community members, researchers and other social actors. Dialogic workshops, interviews, photographic recordings of biodiversity samples and the approximation of knowledge between these communities, and the survey, collection and analysis of hydroclimatological data will be carried out, based on citizen science. Among the expected results are sustainable solutions based on nature, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, which promote the strengthening of territorial governance, local development and climate resilience, contributing to the empowerment of communities and the expansion of protection for the socio-diversity of the eastern and western Amazon.
