EMU for Information Depository Centers, Document Collections: Integrated Collections Virtualization Laboratory MAE/ IEB USP (LIVA)

Abstract

The Integrated Laboratory for Virtualization of Collections (LIVA) is a proposal for the development of an information system suitable for different types of material heritage, based on modeled and programmed metadata for consultation, research and management of the existing collections at the Museum of Archeology and Ethnology and the Institute of Brazilian Studies at the University of São Paulo. The central structure focuses on the development of a collections management system (which includes numerous products, from description to the internal flow of technical reserves) and an integrated search platform to enable full communication of collections through virtualized access to objects. The production of digital files using high-performance technologies, combined with the organization of metadata designed to share relevant and easily accessible information, will ensure the large-scale circulation (nationally and internationally) of Brazilian historical, anthropological, archaeological, artistic and cultural heritage stored at MAE-USP and IEB-USP.
