Abstract

On Brazilian side, missions will contribute to academic dialogue and circulation of knowledge being constructed by the FAPESP project Guardians of Parelheiros: agroecology, payments for environmental services and community organization in the extreme south of São Paulo. The project aims to strengthen the community of social agents responsible for environmental preservation in the extreme south of São Paulo. They occopy land with significant vegetation, with production of agroecological foods, with an active role in community-based tourism in the region. These actors play a central role in local society, and for this reason they are a strategic group to be incorporated into public policies. Fight for environmental preservation in these areas is the same fight for the preservation of sustainable ways of life. SPRINT project will broaden and complexify understanding of this territory, improving the narratives about its relevance as a place of cultural heritage. (AU)
