Abstract

This project proposes a study to technically and economically evaluate the viability of waste gasification in the sugarcane sector for the generation of biofuels and electricity in a combined cycle, in addition to developing a study that evaluates the main physical and chemical properties of bagasse and chaff, and mixtures of these materials with quartz sand or alumina, to identify the characteristics required of this material as a fuel to be used in a gasification reactor. It is also proposed to develop a methodology based on the characteristics of this biomass that will allow the design of a bubbling fluidized bed gasifier to be optimized in order to achieve good fluidization and homogeneous mixing of the bed, improving the efficiency of its feeding system. The project also aims to identify the best configuration for the BTL plant, the costs of producing the synthesis gas, as well as allocating the costs of producing the liquid fuels and the electricity and heat generated in the proposed system. In the final phase, pollutant emissions, carbon dioxide equivalent, the pollution indicator and the environmental efficiency of incorporating the new processes will be determined by comparing them with traditional technologies used in the Brazilian electricity and transportation sectors.
