Abstract

This proposal aims to establish a strategic collaboration between the Center for Research on Resilience in Climate Crises and Disasters (CLIMARES - FAPESP CEPID) and the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), building on shared research priorities related to climate change adaptation, urban resilience, and transformative governance. The mobility initiative will foster the exchange of researchers, comparative analyses of adaptation experiences in the Global South and North, and the co-development of knowledge on adaptive infrastructure-particularly climate shelters.Drawing on case studies from the coastal region of São Paulo (e.g., Santos, São Vicente) and the ongoing IMAGINE Adaptation project at BC3 (funded by the European Research Council), this collaboration will focus on workshops, technical visits, local stakeholder meetings, and academic seminars. It will support the creation of comparative indicators, strengthen methodologies for monitoring and evaluation, and promote the articulation of a shared analytical framework on multilevel climate governance and climate justice.This first-phase collaboration seeks to lay the foundation for a lasting, strategic partnership between BC3 and CLIMARES, grounded in shared values of social justice, collaborative knowledge production, and transformative responses to climate crises in urban contexts.
