Abstract

The aim of this proposal is to continue the selection process initiated in the previous proposal (99/09399-4), as well as to establish a new crosses program to create the necessary variability for genetic studies and development of new soybean cultivars with good agronomic traits, resistant to diseases and to glyphosate. A scar marker for soybean rust resistance will be developed and used along with the markers for stem canker, soybean cyst nematode and powdery mildew resistance (markers developed in the previous proposal) in the selective process. Soybean transformation using the gene gun and the genes "cry" and "zein", and expression analysis of the genes for resistance to stem canker will also be performed. Superior soybean strains will be crossed with parental carrying the glyphosate resistance gene, aiming the development of new RR JAB cultivars. Ali superior soybean strains developed in the previous proposal will be evaluated in several environments and stability studies will be performed. The best ones will be indicated for the national soybean cultivars evaluation program, aiming their release as new soybean varieties. This proposal will also allow the effective use of equipments acquired with resources of the FAPESP "Multi-usuário-2" program (04/09467-0), as well as the development of new master's and doctorate thesis, besides allowing the training of the interested undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of genetics and plant improvement, plant transformation, expression analysis, adaptability and stability studies and genetic parameters estimation in segregating and advanced generations.
