Abstract

In general aspects, this project aims at analyzing the changes in the forms of regulating and rationalizing work in the areas of the Arts and Spectacles (musicians and balIet dancers) and Education (teachers). It consists of groups of occupations in the area of culture, selected to comprehend the changes in the working market in the last decades, which express a relative subordination to the laws of an economy driving at efficiency and competitiveness. In terms of methodology, it is focused on the international comparative analysis of public politics, market and working organization, not only in Brazil but also in France. Emphasizing similarities and singularities in countries which have different historical background is the main objective of this project, also informing universal aspects of the social phenomenon, such as the generalized appeal to education, including the professional one, to accomplish the changes mentioned above. Sex social relations will be analyzed in order to comprehend distinctions and hierarchies, amplifying the analysis on working education, relations and market. In the two first years, one will study the forms assumed by the stable (or relatively stable) work, the salaried one, with working- related rights. One the one hand, it deals about orchestra musicians, as weIl as ballet dancers (classic and contemporary ballet), alI of them forming stable ensembles in public resources subsidized theaters; on the other hand, the teachers who work in high schools or deal with professional education. The emphasis on the state subsidized theaters and public schools is due to the fact that such institutions provide the highest leveI on working-related rights in the heterogeneous world of the cultural area. In the third and fourth years, the focus of the research wiIl be on the autonomous, precarious, substituting and intermittent working forms, in the same countries and institutions. Aspects related to unemployment wiIl be considered at alI stages of the research. (AU)
