New Theory of Communication

Abstract

New Theory of Communication is a research project lead by the NTC - Centre for Research and Studies on New Technologies, Culture and Communication, a group of researchers and professors from the Department of Journalism and Publishing from the Escola de Comunicações e Artes - University of São Paulo, and has the folIowing proposals: 1) The construction of a new theoretical model for communication's studies that considers the most recent developments of new technologies (interativity, networks, real time, virtual spaces, images digitalization, the changes of written texts, the relationship with the environment) and put them into a referential frame of scientific investigation, that could be more updated and synchronized with the enormous changes of this time. Within the boundaries of theoretical proposal the Project intends (a) to sketch the reformulation of disciplines' concepts; (b) to propose a new methodology and (c) to suggest utilizations of the new research method in communications studies in Brazil. 2) The development of investigation and academic practices within the Departments' specializations, journalism and publishing, through (a) practical and new projects (newspaper and magazines' digital editing, books and journals publishing), (b) development of new ways to attract undergraduate and graduate students to the scientific research through the set up of managed study groups and (c) direct binding of graduate researchers -and even undergraduate investigation beginners -to the work of main researchers from the Centre. Particularly related to the items b and c we intend to stimulate the students to the pleasure of the scientific investigation, to profound their knowledge and to excite them to participate deeper in the academic life. The idea is to regain the enthusiasm about the university, functioning also as support to the colIege regular activities, covering faults and gaps in theoretical education. (AU)
