The Research on São Paulo's Economic Activity (PAEP)

Abstract

The research on São Paulo's Economic Activity (PAEP) has the following basic objectives: 1) generation and dissemination of basic indicators, which will allow the evaluation of both the state's economic activity and its recent economic restructuring processes; 2) compilation of such information by region, in order to meet the demands of the decentralized planning as well as the private sector's decision making processes. Companies and local units will function as investigation units grouped according to sectors of activity. These will examine the principal variables allowing the identification and verification of the key aspects involving production restructuring processes and their dissemination (technological innovations, new types of organization and spatial reorganization trends) and compare them with the basic variables utilized in the evaluation of the economy (added value, employment levels, salaries, etc.). The research will seek, above all, the development of performance indicators (market participation, import and export rates, etc.); efficiency (profitability, productivity, etc.); capacity (human resources, technological breakthroughs, dissemination of new technologies, organizational innovations, outsourcing, investments, etc.) both regional and environmental assets restructuring indicators will also be obtained through PAEP.
