Abstract

The objective of the proposed project 'Monteiro Lobato (1882- 1948) and other Brazilian Modernisms' is to organize, catalogue, interpret, study and publish the documents of the Fundo Monteiro Lobato [Monteiro Lobato Archive] deposited at the Centro de Estudos Alexandre Eulálio ( Cedae) at the Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem (IEL) at Unicamp (Universidade Estadual de Campinas) by the writer's heirs. The FML has more than two thousand items which include printed matter, typescripts and manuscripts: letters to and from Monteiro Lobato and his relatives, originais, working copies, personal and family documents, clippings, photographs, paintings, drawings, books from the author's personallibrary as well as personal effects. The analysis and interpretation of the documents included in the FML a) will enhance the understanding of relevant aspects of Brazilian cultural life in the first half of 20th century; b) will increase the comprehension of Brazilian literary field at Monteiro Lobato's time; c) will discuss some traits of Monteiro Lobato's literary works in relationship c.1) to Brazilian literary production and c.2) to his other cultural productions, mainly in the field of visual arts and book production. After cleaning and cataloguing the material an online database will be made available. (AU)
