Abstract

In this project it is intended to study energy generation and cogeneration systems employing biomass and/or natural gas. The proposal is to continue and to support the studies in development and to make possible the accomplishment of new researches by the NUPLEN (Núcleo de Planejamento Energético e Cogeração). At first two problems will be studied, one of them related to the use of the natural gas as combustible in refrigerating industries in substitution of firewood and/or to the oil, aiming at the generation of electricity for self consumption, vapor for processes and, also, refrigeration for the refrigerating cameras (trigeneration energy system); the other problem is related to the use of natural gas as complementary combustible to the biomass of the sugar cane in sugarcane industries, aiming at the energy production during all the year. A number of plants of refrigerating and sugarcane industries will be studied and afterwards improvements and new plants, located strategically in the neighborhoods of a gas duct to make possible the exploitation of the natural gas, will be suggested. Energy, exergetic and termoeconomic analysis of the systems will be performed in order to obtain energy production (electric, cold and heat) as well as global efficiencies, necessary investments, among others characteristics.
