Abstract

Ozone is an instable gas composed by a triatomic molecule of oxygen that has been used for medical and dentistry therapeutic proposes in order to enhance wound healing mainly considering chronic wounds by its stimulatory effects in a several biochemistry events at the cellular metabolism besides its antimicrobial properties. The literature has showed different systemic and local appliances however, there is a certain empirism considering the knowledge of the theory and practice about its real effect at the cellular mechanism. Ozone has been employed in its gas form, diluted in water or in vegetal oil. When diluted in water it half life enhance and it is less toxic. Some researches show that ozone reacts with organic fluids when there is the development of reactive oxygen species, like hydrogen peroxides, and also oxidants lipidic species that depending on concentration can signalize biochemical events that stimulate wound healing. Physiologically an ozone molecule is produced by neutrophiles during immunological response of defense and so it will be of great importance to study the histomorphometry and immunohistochemical biological effect of ozone when it is diluted in water giving special attention to the revascularity of the wound, the fibroblastic proliferation and myofibroblastic differentiation and also collagen synthesis. . Previous studies have showed that there is a difference at the contraction process when the wound is irrigated with ozonized water. At the present propose there will be analyzed two different concentrations (50mg/L and 10 mg/L) looking for the macroscopic aspects of standardized dorsal wounds in rats , comparatively after the irrigation with ozonized water and pure one, evaluating the wound healing specially the contraction, the cellularity at different phases by digital histometry and the immune expression of anti-MIF related to pro-inflammatory macrophages; of anti-actin related to myofibroblasts and of anti-collagen type-I related to collagen synthesis.
