Abstract

The Contextual Viewer of Medical Images allows the use of contextual information, such as user role, available services and computer hardware, to assist the user. An example of such assistance is the automatic display of a pre-surgery image when a radiologist opens a pos- surgery image. The viewer was developed during the doctorate thesis "Visualizador Contextual de Imagens Médicas", partially supported by FAPESP (grants 01/05987-0) and produced an international article for the magazine "IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine" (accepted).This project proposes the enhancement and extension of the architecture developed in the thesis, which includes the following items: Refinement of the proposed context model; Use of intelligent agents for the inference of contextual actions that can assist the healthcare professional; Evaluation of usability and advantages of the system in clinical situations.As result of the project, beyond the enhanced and expanded version of the viewer, it is expected the publication of articles, participation in national and international congresses and interaction with other projects developed at the Informatics Division at InCor, "Image database for extraction of knowledge in medicine" (FAPESP 01/14040-7) and "Weblab for Multimodal Medical Image Database" (FAPESP 2003/08133-8).
