Abstract

At present desferrioxamine is the only pharmaceutical of safe use in the reduction of the build up of iron in the organism. Although it is no longer protected by patents, its manufacture is carried out practically by a single laboratory and its commercialization has a high price throughout the world. The present project aims to develop an efficient process for the synthesis of desferrioxamine, which is required in order to enable its local production. (AU)
