Abstract
The cotton leafworm, Alabama argillacea (Hübner, 1818) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is one of the main pests of the cotton plant (Gossypium hirsutum L.) in any countries. The leafworms fed themselves of leaves and, depending on the density and time of occurrence, can take away the cotton leaves completely, reducing significantly the production. The periodic substitution of cotton cultivars for the farms, it can modify the levels of economic damages and control of pests and in such a way to compromise the success in the IPM in the Center-West of Brazil. The objective of this work is to evaluate the effect in the phenology and the productivity caused by simulated defoliation levels and/or because of cotton leafworms in cultivars introduced recently in the Center-West of Brazil. The assays will be carried through in experimental areas of the Apta Regional do Centro Norte in Pindorama, São Paulo state. The fed assay will be constituted of 64 treatments resultant of the interaction of four levels of fed, four times of fed and four cotton cultivar. The defoliation levels will be 0, 33, 67 and 100.0% simulating damage of the insect. The defoliation levels will be applied an only operation to the 30, or 50, or 70, or to the 90 day after of emergency of plants. The cotton cultivars Delta Opal, IAC-25, Fabrika and Deltapine Acala 90 will be used. In second assay, leafworms in different densities in detriment of the simulated defoliation will be used. From the beginning of the fructification of the plants two weekly evaluations will be carried through, in the two experiments, evaluating the number of cotton squares, flowers, bolls and production. To the end of the cycle, when 70% of the bolls will be opened, the harvest will be carried determining the fiber and seed quantify and quality. (AU)
