Development of a technology for continuous segregation of biomass particles using a new type of pneumatic classifier: sugarcane bagasse and other solid biomass residues


Classification of biomass particles is normally conducted with the objective to increase process performance. In the case of sugarcane bagasse the pneumatic classification allows the recovery of different fractions and composition. In this project a new type of pneumatic classifier will be built and tested for the continuous classification of sugarcane bagasse. The project has 3 main phases: the classifier design, construction and assemblage of a bench scale unit with 10 kg / h capacity. An experimental study will be conducted and an empirical mathematical modeling will be tested to evaluate the classifier behavior under different testing conditions. (AU)
