Abstract

Since the early 1980s, fungi have emerged as major causes of human disease, especially among the immunocompromised and those hospitalized with serious underlying disease. Candida species are the fourth leading cause of nosocomial bloodstream infection (BSI) in the United States, accounting for 8% to 10% of all BSIs acquired in the hospital and in Brazil an overall incidence of 2.49 cases per 1,000 admissions and C. albicans was the most common species (40.9%), followed by C. tropicalis (20.9%) and C. parapsilosis (20.5%). A total of 137 Candida isolates were collected, the incidence, species distribution, frequency of antifungal resistance antifungal of yeast in BSI infections are going to be studied. The MICs for four antifungal agents Amphotericin B, Voriconazole, Intraconazole and Fluconazole are going to be evaluated using testing methods of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, 2002), E test , Sensititre Yeast one Y8 e Disk diffusion (CLSI, 2004). We are going to evaluate the agreement between NCCLS, E test, Disk diffusion and Sensititre for this drugs and correlation between this MICs and tests to evaluated minor errors, major errors and very major errors.
