The main goal of this research project is the development and use of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) as a main tool for studying dynamical and structural properties of soft matter. Specifically, we intend to focus on three main themes, which are: i) study of dynamics and structure of luminescent polymers and its relationship with optical and electrical properties; ii) study of dynamics and structure of polymer elastomers and related systems; iii) development and implantation of specific NMR methods for the proposed applications. In these studies, we intend to used advanced high and low resolution NMR methods capable of providing detailed structural and dynamical information about the studied systems, which are closely related with the mechanical and optical properties of these materials. Besides that, the project also contemplates the installation of a low filed NMR laboratory specifically designed for this kind of application, including an experimental apparatus capable of performing simultaneous experiments of low filed NMR and optical spectroscopy.
