Abstract

The literature implies that women in menopause are more opened to periodontal disease. Scaling and root planning (RAP) is the main periodontal disease non surgical therapy. The low intensity level laser, associated to a photosensitizing drug, has showed antimicrobian effective action against periodontopathogens, stam the concept of photodynamic therapy (PDT), it could be a complementary method to RAP. The aim this study is to evaluate the efects of laser and PDT in the periodontal disease treatment ligadure-induced in rats (270), it will be divided into three groups: (A) normal rats-control, (B) ovariectomizeds, (C) ovariectomizeds, treated with hormone replacement therapy. The periodontal disease will be induced through place cotton ligatures in the mandibular first molar . After seven days ligature will be removed, it will divided in subgroups following these local treatments, that will be made in the mandibular first left molars. Treatment I (n=90) - RAP followed by irrigation of 1ml physiologic serum; treatment II (n=90), followed by 1ml de physiologic serum associated low-level laser therapy; treatment III (n=90) - RAR, irrigation with 1ml toluidine blue and after 1 minute aplication of law-level laser, making thus PDT. Ten animals will be sacrificed, each group/treatment, in the intervals 7, 15, 30 days, will be submitted to histologic, histometric and imunoihstochemical analyses. The statistic analysis of the histopatologic escores will be made by Bioestat Computational Program. (AU)
