The occurence of antimicrobial residues in milk from dairy farms Campinas metropolitan region

Abstract

Milk is a nutritious product that contains proteins, vitamins, fat, carbohydrates and is a essential for all mammals. Milk is an excellent source of minerals that include high calcium concentration, growth factors and hormones. The occurrence of antimicrobials residues in milk represents a risk to the health of the consumer carrying an allergy reaction in most sensitive fellow. The antimicrobials contamination changes the manufacturing properties of milk. The objectives of this research will be to monitor nine commercial dairy farm producing different grades of milk quality: type B and type C. Based on this criteria will be possible to identify the critical points of milk contamination by antimicrobials residues and to find strategies that include implementation of public politics among partners institutions. The milk produced in these farms will be delivered to Central Dairy Cooperative of Sao Paulo State. These dairy farms are located in Campinas Metropolitan Region (SP) and supply 7000 liters of milk. This production corresponds to the total load of milk truck. Four herds (n=400) will have all mammary quarters of lactating cows evaluated by antimicrobials residues in milk and etiologic mastitis microorganisms’ identification. Milk samples of cows, bulk tank and milk truck will be collected at two weeks intervals during a period of 60 days. A commercial test for residues detection (Delvotest) by microbiological inhibition will be used to analyze the milk samples. Milk samples will be cultivate on agar containing 5% of sheep blood incubated for 72 hours at 37ºC. Five herds will have the milk samples collected of the bulk tank and the milk truck to evaluated antimicrobials residues and somatic cell count. The effects of independent parameters (milk lines: herds, cows, and teats) on mastitis and residues occurrence will be performed on GLIMMIX procedure of the SAS system in according to generalized linear mixed models with random effects and normal distribution (AU)
