Influence of different changes in the volume and intensity of exercise in the pattern of sleep in healthy individuals sedentary

Abstract

One third of our lives is passed sleeping, of this form sleep is a natural factor of the circadian cycle. Sleep can be divide in REM Sleep, identified by the occurrence of rapid eye movements under closed eyelids and NREM Sleep consists of sleep stages I through IV. Some external factors can influence the architecture of sleep. The periodic physical exercise is being considered a non pharmacological intervention for treatment of sleep disorder. Studies show that the sleep of active people is better than inactive people, with the hypothesis that who has a better sleep will probably have more disposal during the day and can in such a way play its activities of cognitive and physical behavior with more precision. In fact the physical exercise became basic for health promotion and improvement in general quality of life of the population. The physical exercise is one of the components in prevention of chronic-degenerative illnesses, besides being basic for improvement of the psychological dimension and the patterns of sleep. Objective: To evaluate the effect of acute physical exercise in the intensity of the first ventilatory threshold (VT1) and in the second ventilatory threshold (VT2) in different volumes and different intensities (30, 60 and 90 minutes) in the pattern of sleep of sedentary healthy adults. Methodology: The sample will be composed by 12 volunteers men with age between 20 to 40 years old. Criteria of inclusion: to be of masculine gender; age between 20 to 40 years old; to be sedentary; clinically healthy (set free for the participation in agreement with medical evaluation and on the basis of the cardiologic examinations); not smoking. Criteria of exclusion: to be active; to be smoking; to present no sleep disorders; to have cardiovascular illness; to present some respiratory problem; not to be set free for the clinical medical examination for participation on the present study. After this will be made an evaluation of the electrocardiograms, BMI (body mass index) evaluation, basal polysomnography (PSG), application of sleep questionnaire, evaluation of the ventilatory threshold for determination of VT1 and VT2. In the next session the volunteer will make the physical exercise in VT1 for 30 minutes, dietary habits (24-hour dietary recall), PSG, and sleep questionnaire will be fullfilled in the following day and the actigraphy will be placed in the night before the exercise. The volunteer will come back to the laboratory, for 6 more trainning sessions in alternated days, toward accomplishment of physical exercises in VT1 for 60 and 90 minutes and in VT2, for 30, 60 and 90 minutes. Remembering that always the individuality will be respected. (AU)
