Abstract

Cutaneous Malignant Melanoma (CMM), a melanocytic neoplasm, has low incidence and high mortality. In 2006 INCA estimated 5.760 new cases in Brazil, observing the highest incidence in the South region. Early diagnosis is the key for a good prognosis. In fact, 05 years survival rates drops from 69% to 14% in the advanced disease. Approximately 10% of all patients with CMM have a first or second degree relative with the same disease, characterizing the Familial Melanoma Syndrome on a clinical basis. There are very few reports on familial melanoma in Latin America. (AU)
