Crude glycerin coming from the agribusiness of biodiesel in the diet of steers containing high or low level of starch in different ratios of roughage and concentrate

Abstract

This project aims to assess and understand the processes occurring in the rumen of Zebu bulls when they are fed 10% crude glycerin in the dry diet, which contain high or low level of starch in different ratios of roughage and concentrate (40:60 and 60:40). Diets with high starch contain corn as part of the concentrated diets with low starch, corn will be replaced by soybean hulls. The crude glycerin replace (at 10% in dry matter) portion of the corn or soybean hulls in the diet. Will be assessed nutritional parameters, rumen and blood changes in the rumen microbiota using molecular biotechnology, the efficiency of microbial production of methane, weight gain, carcass characteristics, meat quality and economy of the diets .
