Abstract

The introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy for the treatment of HIV infected patients provided dramatically reduction in morbidity and mortality. At the same time this longer survival alowed an increased risk for cardiovascular events, particularly the atherosclerosis related conditions as coronary artery disease. We aim to develop strategies for screening and early detection of atherosclerotic disease in this population. We will evaluate the markers of atherosclerosis in 400 HIV infected patients taken care of in the Hospital Dia of HC FMUNESP Botucatu, according to viral load, antiretroviral regimen, CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell counts and viral genotype.
