Abstract

Patients with tooth loss present disorders of the masticatory function and esthetic. The dental implants allow preserve the adjacent teeth and anatomical structures bedoming the first option to rehabilitation of occlusion in a significant number of cases. When the patient is carrying of the mechanical heart valve prosthesis and kept under continuous anticoagulation due to the high thrombotic risk, the consequent prolonged prothrombin time is not absolute contraindication to oral surgery procedures since it followed protocol of care. Why not find in the literature studies confirming the feasibility of dental implants in the presence of oral anticoagulant medication and assessment of surgical success after mechanical and clinical evaluation of osseointegration we were led to this study. We will study 22 patients with mechanical heart valve prosthesis (study group - SG) in continuous use of oral anticoagulants and under monitoring of Clinical Unit of the Heart Valve of the Heart Institute, Clinics Hospital, Medicine College, São Paulo University (InCor-FMUSP), with indicating oral rehabilitation by dental implants. The control group (CG) is composed of equal number of patients with valvular heart disease, with or without biological heart valve prosthesis, without use of anticoagulant medication in direct or indirect action or antiplatelet agent for at least 30 days, proved by INR assessment of the exam, with the same criteria of inclusion and non-inclusion of SG.
