Abstract

With the growing insertion of science and technology (S&T), in most different space-time of contemporary life, discussions about culture and public have gained strength and centrality. To scientific divulgation and communication it is assigned the roles of providing access and shape of a new scientific culture and an effective public engagement. The settings that the culture and the public take are manifold, which indicate potentialities, limitations and distinct issues that need to be more explored and investigated. This project aims at examining how the concepts of culture and public have been shifted by Science, Technology and Society Studies, Cultural Studies, Social Studies of Science, Communication and Journalism Studies and the Post- structuralists Studies. Moreover, it proposes to establish connections between devices, data, results and analysis produced in researches and extension projects developed by Labjor in the past ten years – in the fields of: public perception of science and technology, sciences, media and cultures, new information and communication technologies, arts, sciences and communication. Given the need, highlighted by recent studies, of developing new and interdisciplinary methodological approaches, which makes the public policies for the democratization of knowledge, products and processes of science and technology more effective, we aim at providing new theoretical basis for the dissemination and communication of science, and social inclusion policies. This project is part of the subproject “Consolidation of the infrastructure required for research, teaching and extension – Labjor” sent by Unicamp to the Public Call Campus Infrastructure State and Municipal 03/2009 FINEP/MCT/FNDCT.
