Abstract

The Virtual Reality, together with other areas of graphic processing, has provided great innovation in simulation and training systems for the various fields of knowledge. The appropriate training of physicians and health professionals requires laboratories that can have high maintenance costs and operation. Although the use of such infrastructure is indispensable for the acquisition of fundamental competences by students, it is possible to reduce the average time of its use - and, therefore, the costs of training - by adopting virtual tools. However, virtual laboratories can also have high costs when they aim to increase the sense of presence and immersion of students in learning activities, aiming at increasing the motivation for learning. It is possible, however, build low-cost solutions or even solutions that enable a viable and flexible cost-benefit relationship, considering the resources available to the user. As the level of complexity involved in the implementation is high, there are requirements for research in computing, producing multidisciplinary scientific results. From this context, this project aims to propose, implement and validate techniques for virtual medical training, using Virtual Reality, Computer Graphics and Image Processing. The project also intends to apply and develop methodologies for validation of the developed techniques considering both technical aspects as aspects related to the user. (AU)
