Abstract

The clinical experience with youth living with HIV/AIDS shows that they have difficulties in their transition from pediatric to adult health care. The hypothesis is that these adolescents would not be prepared for an active role in their own care, and would feel overwhelmed by being responsible for the schedules, the comprehension of test results, and the complex treatment. The study aims to discuss the meanings attributed by adolescents living with HIV/AIDS on the transition of care from a pediatric service to adult health care. Method: The sample is classified as by convenience' or 'intentional'. The adolescents with HIV / AIDS at 16 years or older, followed in the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP-CEADIPe) will be included if meet the following criteria: HIV infection by via vertical followed for a minimum period of five years, no neurological or cognitive language deficit, absence of severe depressive episode at inclusion, signing the consent form for participation in the study (IC) by adolescents >18yr or their guardians (if <18yr) and the Term of Consent for those younger than 18 yrs. It will be used the clinical-qualitative method with semi structured interviews with open questions. The interviews will last approximately 45-60 minutes. The closing of the sample will be performed by saturation. The analyses, after use of fluctuating readings from all the interviews, the data will be categorized into topics for conducting the discussion searching for nexus of meanings in the light of a theoretical framework, composed of the knowledge of medical psychology. It is important to note that the analysis should not be limited to what is explained, but, starting from what is explained in the speech and what is latent in it, will try to seize beyond what is said, that is, the subjectivity not told by the participants. There will be a peer review to ensure the scientific results and research findings. (AU)
