Static and dynamic postural control in Sit to stand activity in children with cerebral palsy

Abstract

The Sit to Stand (STS) activity it is a important milestones acquired in the first year of life, allowing a wide child's interaction with the environment. How this activity request a great biomechanics and neuromuscular demand it is a impairment activity in cases of dysfunctions like cerebral palsy (CP). One of the possible reasons to the impaired performance in this activity is the poor postural control, especially in the static position. Therefore, these children have important balance and functionality limitations. However, the relation between this postural control and the performance in the STS activity has not known yet. Thus, the objective of this study is to verify the relationship between static and dynamic postural control in the STS activity in typical children (TC) and children with CP making a parallel with the functionality level and functional balance. For this, 10 TC and 10 CP children, GMFCS level I and II, will be evaluate in the STS activity by kinetic analyse. These same children will be evaluate to static postural control analyse by kinetic, functionality evaluation by the Paediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI), and functional balance by Paediatric Balance Scale (PBS). The confrontation between the children's groups will be doing by mean suitable tests with the preservation of the normality of this distribution. The correlation coefficient and logistics regression model will be used with a statistically significant difference of P < 0,05. We hypothesize that children with more postural control index will have a best dynamic performance in the STS activity and most functionality and functional balance index. (AU)
