Abstract

Physico-chemical factors that determine interactions between bilayer vesicles, biomolecules and surfaces are poorly understood. Research will be focused on the following interactions: 1) synthetic bilayer vesicles and oppositely charged polystyrene microspheres or polymeric films; 2) antimicrobial cationic vesicles and cell surfaces of clinically important microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi; 3) phospholipid or synthetic vesicles and mineral surfaces; 4) cationic vesicles and oppositely charged biomolecules such as serum proteins or DNA. The results may be of importance for strategic applied areas (design of vaccines, novel and unexpensive drug delivery agents, biosensors and immunological kits, water treatment and gene therapy).
