Abstract
Owing to the importance of Poales within Monocotyledons, new anatomical data are essential to the taxonomy and phylogeny of the group. In this context, species of Eriocaulaceae, Xyridaceae, Cyperaceae, Poaceae, Juncaceae and Rapateaceae will be studied anatocamically, since these families are representative in Poales. They include several species restricted to Brazil and thus represent an interesting model for multidisciplinary studies. The methodology will involve field trips for collection of the samples and work in the laboratory, where the material will be processed for analysis, interpretation and documentation of the results. The anatomical studies will be performed on vegetative and reproductive organs in different developmental phases. Part of the fixed material will be manually sectioned, stained and mounted on semi-permanent slides. Another part will be included in historresin, sectioned with rotative microtome, stained and mounted on permanent slides. This study aims to assess anatomical characters informative to elucidate taxonomic and phylogenetic aspects of the studied families. The results will contribute to the better understanding of inter and infrafamilial relationships in Poales, allowing inferences about the evolution of the order. (AU)
