Abstract

This project will be used to evaluate the satiety, the variation in bone mineral density (BMD) and coagulation factors in sub samples of women from the original project, which was approved in the call-PPSUS/FAPESP under number 2009/18226, effective from 01/05/2010 to 30/04/2012, aimed to study the metabolism of glucose and inflammatory factors of cardiovascular disease in young women new users of the injectable contraceptive with DMP-A and nonusers. However, we had not originally intended to assess symptoms of hunger and satiety. We idealize then supplement the original project with evaluation of eating behavior in a subset of users and nonusers, with the application of a questionnaire (BINGE, translated and validated in Brazil) about eating disorders and a serum Neuropeptide Y at baseline and after 12 months of use of the contraceptive in 40 women (20 users and 20 nonusers). Moreover, in view of the original design have sample of 100 healthy women and nonusers controls, who never used DMPA, we will created two new study arms, one to assess BMD and lifestyle habits, and another to assess the variation of some coagulation factors, both in sub-samples of women from the original project. The first arm, a pilot study with 40 users and 40 nonusers, assessment the Ca+ dietary, sun exposure and exercise whit dosages of vitamin D, parathyroid hormone, calcium, phosphorus and lumbar and BMD of femur at baseline and at 12 months. The second arm will be to assess changes in coagulation factors, in DMP-A users and controls, at baseline, 6 and 12 months. The sample size calculation was estimated on 22 DMP-A users, we chose to recruit 60 women, 30 in the group of users and 30 nonusers. (AU)
