Abstract

It is known that learning is facilitated when there is the support of several resources that use auditory and visual skills, for example. Based on the proposal of Distance Education, the CD-ROMs of The Virtual Man Project are educational materials that are intended to help the learning process of anatomy, physiology, morphology and various diseases by health professionals, as well as by the general population. The CD-ROM: "Voice Assessment: speech-language pathology and audiology and medicine," Volume 1, was developed and evaluated for its effectiveness as an educational material specifically in relation to speech articulation. This instrument has been used as a face to face and distance education teaching resource material, as well as a therapeutic strategy in clinical practice in cases of dysphonia and speech disorders; there is also the possibility of its application in teaching and learning English as a second language. The aim of this study is to translate and adapt the educational material "Voice Assessment: speech-language pathology and audiology and medicine," Volume 1, to American English from the updated version of the CD-ROM in Portuguese, as well as to evaluate its technical and scientific quality and effectiveness as an educational instrument. The first part of this project aims to update and translate the instrument. The second part is aimed at creating a website in English and in Portuguese by releasing the whole content of the CD-ROM on a new means of communication. Finally, both versions will be analyzed by Brazilian and American professionals for their scientific and technical quality. As an educational instrument in the context of English teaching and learning, it will be used to evaluate its effectiveness with graduation students of the Languages-Translation course using questionnaires. The data collected will be tabulated and analyzed to identify if the website quality can be confirmed. (AU)
