Use of nanoparticles in vaccines against bacterial meningitis

This work aims at the combined use of outer membrane vesicles - OMV, carbon nanotubes and mesoporous silica vaccine in immunization procedures. For this, we use nanoparticles known as OMV, produced by bacteria such as Neisseria meningitidis and Haemophilus influenzae, in new forms of production targeting a broad use of this methodology to obtain these antigenic nanostructures. In addition to the OMVS, we use the multi-layered carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and mesoporous silica as an adjuvant to enhance immune responses and look for an improved vaccine coverage. This work will develop methods to obtain less costly vaccines that vaccines based on OMVS on the market, aims to obtain since these nanostructures by processes of ultrafiltration, ultracentrifugation dispensing process. This process requires equipment that make it difficult to scale up for production of vaccines, thus increasing the cost of it to the most deprived and exposed to bacterial meningitis. (AU)
