Abstract

The main goal of the project is to synthesize cyclic and discrete inorganic species and porous coordination polymers (Metal Organic Frameworks, MOFs) containing exopolidentate ligands and divalent transition metal such as Pd, Ni, Cu, Cd, Mn, Co and Zn. Similar studies using trivalent luminescent lanthanide ions (Eu, Tb, Tm, Sm) and O-donor ligands will also be realized. The classes of ligands should include ditopic linear linkers (pyrazine, 4,4´-bipyridine, trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridil)ethilene), angular building blocks (specially pyrazolates), dicarboxylate groups (oxalate, malonate, fumarate, succinate, terephtalate) and Y-shaped tridentate ligands such as 2,4,5-tris(4-pyridil)imidazole (tpyHImz). Diverse synthetic routes should be used including saturation and diffusion methods, hydrothermal synthesis and microwave warming. The possibilities of combination between these metallic cations and multitopic ligands used as building blocks as well the spatial organization of these structural unities should carry out the construction of metallosupramolecules and coordination polymers containing cannels and cavities in nanometric scale. The potential application of porous coordination solids in host-guest chemistry, gas adsorption and molecular material science (specially magnetism and luminescence areas) will also be investigated in this research.
