Desiring Nation

Abstract

Desiring Nation analyzes the origin of a new national imaginary at the end of XIX Century in Brazil. This imaginary was connected to an increased intest on the role of sexuality and desire in the emerging political and cultural brazilian republican society. Based on a repertory of Feminist, Queer, and Post-Colonial sources, the book explores the relations between a new morality, sex, and gender relations. Its main objects of analysis are historical documents, Brazilian social thought and the analysis of three novels written in the Brazilian fin-de-siècle. (AU)
