Pioneers of social housing in Brazil

Abstract

The book, which has 3 volumes and 960 pages, is the result of a wide-ranging research process coordinated by main author teacher Nabil Bonduki, and has been supported in various ways by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), among which a Project Research Support Project, 05/55070-7. The documentary and photographic field surveys, the organization of the empirical material, the re-drawings and Marquette's of the designs, the drafting of texts and the editing of the work were carried out by a team of undergraduate, master's and PhD students, supported by grants from FAPESP and other institutions (CNPq, CAPES and FIPAI) over our teen veers, having resulted in undergraduate and master's dissertations and PhD and doctoral thesis and free doctoral Thesis. Furthermore, the project was supported by companies, through (Fiscal Incentive Law) Pronac 04-4182. The book introduces the history of housing policies and programs in Brazil in the last hundred years and sheds light in encompassing fashion on housing construction from 1930 to 1964. It undertakes analyses of the agencies that promoted such enterprises and provides an inventory with some 310 housing estates all over the country, identifying them with act sheets, analytical texts and plentiful illustration (drawings, photographs), as well as statements by the designs' authors. The eleven most significant enterprises are studied in depth, with analytical texts, three-dimensional models and photo-essays by Bob Wolfenson. The documentation and reflections contained in the texts are original and yet unpublished, thus contribution to a fresh look at the history architecture and social housing in Brazil. (AU)
