Physico-chemical characterization and biological value of meal and oil products obtained from waste of neotropical fish processing

Abstract

The objective of this study is to develop, characterize physico-chemically and determine the biological value and performance indicators of meal and oil products obtained from the waste of neotropical fish processing. Trial 1 consists of production and characterization of the meals and oils produced from the waste resulting from processing of neotropical fish. The meals are going to be produced in a processing unit developed and suitable for the production of tilapia meal and oil. Meal and oil are going to be produced from two raw materials, residue from the processing of pacu, tambaqui and the hybrid tambacu; and the second, pintado, cachara and the hybrid pinchara, which are going be purchased from the company Mar & Terra, located in Itapora, MS. Trial 1 will describe the process steps to obtain the products and their quality will be determined by physico-chemical and microbiological analysis. Trial 2 consists of establishing the biological value of the meal and oil products by determining apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) for Nile tilapia. The meal and oils used to determine apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) will have been obtained in a previous trial. The apparent digestibility coefficient will be determined for dry matter, protein, energy, fat, ashes and phosphorus. Trial 3 consists of determining the performance of Nile tilapia fingerlings (Oreochromis niloticus) fed diets containing meal and oil obtained from waste of neotropical fish processing. A total of five diets are going to be formulated containing similar levels of protein, two based on the meals developed in Trial 1, another two diets based on marine fish meal, poultry viscera meal and a control diet based on soybean meal. The experimental design will be completely randomized and the data will be submitted to analysis of variance, means will be compared by Tukey test at 5%. (AU)
