Abstract

The Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is classified as a musculoskeletal disorder and the main cause no-dental pain in orofacial region. The symptoms are multifactorial and floating features with variation in the duration and intensity creating great impact in quality of life of affected people. This project aims to know the process of illness and seeking treatment in people with TMD diagnosed by RDC / TMD who did not seek health services. It is a qualitative methodological approach using the phenomenology seeks to understand the phenomenon from the perspective of the interviewee. Individuals will be covered non-patients who were diagnosed with TMD in a previous study to participate in a semi-structured interview, recorded by addressing the personal meanings of the disease process and factors that interfere with seeking treatment. In data analysis, interviews will be transcribed and analyzed according to interpretative phenomenological approarch. This study will formulate hypotheses to explain the reasons why people with TMD signs and symptoms consistent with the need for specialized care are not in treatment and their perceptions and living with the disease.
