Abstract

The most frequent soils in the coastal plain of the coast of São Paulo Spodosols characterized by intense podzolization and the consequent presence of spodic horizon (Bh or Bhm). The formation of Spodosols, especially with emphasis on molecular characterization of the organic matter (OM) of these soils have been poorly studied in tropical regions with scarcity of detailed studies to assess the characteristics and chemical composition of OM, its influence in the process of podzolization and variation of morphological features and well in poorly drained Spodosols. The main objective is to characterize the OM of Spodosols to obtain in information about the chemical composition of the OM that allow a more comprehensive approach on the formation processes and elucidate the lateral and vertical variation of the OM evolution, and consequently spodic horizons on Ilha Comprida. After the partitioning of landforms along the transect of 2.7 km, soil horizons will be described and designed in representative segments to determinate the choice of soil samples. Samples collected will be subjected to physical, chemical and micromorphological analyses. To obtain information on about the OM composition will be used as the analytical methods as pyrolysis as associated to gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Pi-CG/EM) and spectroscopic methods such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) for determining the properties of the OM. Informations about the drainage network and the distribution of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) along the ground and sideways in the landscape will be obtained. (AU)
