Abstract

Bismuth titanate (BT) presents several structures with different properties, for instance the ferroelectric perovskite (Bi4Ti3O12) or the dielectric pyrochlore (Bi2Ti2O7), simply by controlling the molar ratio Bi:Ti. There are a huge number of synthesis techniques, however the oxidant peroxo method (OPM) has the advantage to avoid the use of chlorine and to vanish the residual carbon, elements usually deleterious for electro-electronic or catalytic applications. Another advantage is the absence of any toxic waste and the use of water as solvent, in agreement with the principles of green chemistry. Bismuth titanate based materials has been used as efficient photocatalyst to produce hydrogen from water splitting. In this work, pure and doped BT samples will be synthesized by the OPM route and characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and scanning and transmission microcopies. The efficiency of crystalline of BT photocatalyst samples will be verified in function of composition, structure and morphological characteristics. It is expect to obtain photocatalyst with superior performance than those synthesized by conventional techniques. (AU)
