Abstract

This study aims to discuss the design of education and rural education in the State of São Paulo. This need arose from the fact that the discussion about education and teaching in the State of São Paulo has been restricted almost exclusively to education in the urban sector, as there is a certain discourse in both circles: the academy and political circles, that the state no longer has the field and that all training should take place in urban centers. This discourse has led successive governments of the state, from the 1980s, to close schools in rural areas and transport children who live in the countryside to the cities, in order to insert them in urban schools. Through previous studies found that the state, more than 40% of the municipalities still use unidocentes schools with multigrade classes, in addition to transport students from the countryside to the city. In many municipalities multigrade schools are attended acting school program that encourages the use of a specific methodology for this type of education, but some sectors, particularly those whose schools are located in settlement areas say implement a proposal derived from the social movements active in the field, i.e., the proposal "for a rural education."To accomplish this work we use the materials produced by many different researchers, in addition to interview some schools responsible for settlement and school members of the "active school project", using semi-structured interviews, open interviews and closed questions.
