Abstract

This project is part of a larger effort to map the continental distribution over the 500 million years before the Cambrian Explosion by unravelling ancient continental collision zones in Africa, India and South America. This will assist in understanding the incredible changes in climate, atmosphere and ocean chemistry, and biodiversity that occurred at the time. During the 4-month stay, the visiting professor will work with the Brazilian Team that develop research in Neoproterozoic to Cambrian orogeneses integrating geochronology, field mapping and paleomagnetism.
