Abstract

This project aims at sponsoring a short visit of Prof. Pol Spanos to institutes of higher education and research in the state of São Paulo, and his delivering of an invited lecture at the Pan-American Congress on Applied Mechanics - PACAM 2010. Prof. Spanos is a leading authority in the fields of structural mechanics, in particular in stochastic mechanics. He has published more than 300 technical papers and authored/edited 18 books and conference volumes. Prof. Spanos is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics and Managing Co-Editor of the Journal of Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics. He has supervised 32 masters students and 31 Ph.D. students. The objectives of this project are the dissemination, in the state of São Paulo, of the state of the art of research in stochastic mechanics, the exchange of experiences, the discussion of ongoing research projects, and stimuli to the creation of bi-lateral collaboration and exchange of researchers and post-graduate students.
