Abstract

Previous works allowed us to study a number of new interesting phenomena related to the physical properties of artificially prepared highly ordered (periodic) two-dimensional Josephson junction arrays of Nb-AIOx-Nb tunnel junctions as well as their disordered counterparts (3D-JJAs) and granular thin films. The latest results on these systems are outlined in our recent review papers. It should be mentioned that so far we have always assumed that any effects related to the finiteness of artificially prepared 2D-JJAs, thin films and granular superconductors are small enough and can be safely neglected. However, the recent experimental results and carefully performed theoretical analysis clearly demonstrate the importance of finite-size and boundary effects for dynamic properties of JJAs. In the present FAPESP project we plan to focus our efforts on important interrelations between the dimensionality of the system and its size-dependent effects. (AU)
